Fort William
is Known as \'The Outdoor Capital of the UK. It is one of the most popular towns in the Scottish Highlands. The spectacular scenery of this area has been used for movies such as Braveheart and Rob Roy. Fort William lies on the eastern shore of Loch Linnhe, at the southern end of "The Great Glen" and at the foot of Ben Nevis, Britain\'s highest mountain (4406ft). The Road to the Isles begins just outside Fort William, opposite the Ben Nevis Distillery and visitor centre, where the A830 heads west for Mallaig. This distillery, which has been producing whisky at the foot of Britain\'s highest mountain since 1825, was opened by John MacDonald of Keppoch. A giant of a man in every way, the blend he produced was called Long John\'s Dew of Ben Nevis. The West Highland Museum is situated in the central square off the High Street in Fort William. It is world famous for its Jacobite collections but also has fine collections of social and local history, archaeology, natural history and geology. Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, Britain’s oldest National Nature Reserve features red deer, Highland cattle, oystercatchers and golden eagles. For Accommodation please click on to the Globes.
