Riverside Guesthouse

Description:

Riverside Guest House has been offering bed and breakfast accommodation for more than 60 years and has been run by the present owners, Janice and Sandy Chisholm, since 1979. Visitors are guaranteed to experience the very best in traditional Scottish hospitality as well as superb views from every bedroom window. Internet access for WI-FI enabled laptops. The bedrooms in the house are on the first floor, all with colour TV for when it is too dark to look at the views. Each room is named after the corresponding view from its window: Fillan (twin) - An Caisteal (double/twin/treble, ensuite) - Falloch (double, which we often let as a single) - Ben More (twin) - Dochart (family: double plus adult-sized bunk, en-suite) - Ben Challum (double, en-suite). We presently have three bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Those bedrooms without en-suites have h&c washbasins. All the rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, together with complimentary biscuits. All rooms are named after their views - Fillan, Ben Challum and Dochart look onto River Fillan and the glen Strathfillan; An Caisteal, Falloch and Ben More face the Crianlarich hill range. Ben More, Fillan and An Caisteal rooms have two windows, each with a different view. The corner of the house (in above picture) is of An Caisteal bedroom. Pets have always been welcome. With pathways within the large grounds and with direct access to the river and Strathfillan beyond, the location is virtually a "doggie heaven". The most unusual animal guest we encountered was a horse! - which had bed and breakfast in one of our fields. Together with his owner they were trekking from John`o`Groats to Lands End and were both very pleased to have found 'accommodation' with us on their epic journey. Although we don't provide an evening meal, there are a number of local restaurants and pubs that serve food daily. However, we do offer Breakfast with a view. There is also a drying room for boots and clothing for when the sun doesn`t shine!

Location:

Crianlarich is one of the most scenic villages in Scotland. The Gaelic name 'Tigh-Na-Struith' translates as 'house beside running water'. Although the house is located within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, an area designated as being of outstanding natural beauty, it is only one hour from Glasgow Airport. Crianlarich is mid-distance along the West Highland Way footpath from Milngavie to Fort William. Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument are approximately one hour by car and are well worth a visit. The west coast port of Oban, also one hour by car, connects to the islands via the Calmac ferries. It is also possible to travel from Crianlarich to Oban by train or bus. Fort William is a further half hour by car but the train journey via the West Highland Line is one of the great scenic train journeys in Europe and is highly recommended. Tigh-Na-Struith (Gaelic for 'house beside running water') sits above the banks of the River Fillan, in its own grounds of roughly four acres. It is approached via 150 yards of driveway from the A82. This is the main road north from Glasgow, which passes alongside Loch Lomond leading to Oban, Fort William and the mountains beyond.
