Shropshire: is a large sparsely populated county in the heart of England straddling the hilly area between Wales and Birmingham and covering an area of 1,350 square miles with a population of 400,000. Shrewsbury, its county town, is possibly the finest tudor town in Britain with winding medieval streets of higgledy-piggledy half timbered houses, and is the birthplace of Charles Darwin. A little further down the road is Ludlow with its spectacular Castle and world renown annual arts festival. The most famous attraction in Shropshire is Ironbridge, here in 1779 the worlds first cast iron bridge was built spanning the River Severn - beautifully constructed, totally innovative - today the Ironbridge stands as a permanent reminder of our industrial past and offers a series of nine museums spread throughout the gorge. Bridgnorth has the finest view in England according to Charles the First and is also home to the Severn Valley Railway, and the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway. Much Wenlock is a rustic 700 year old medieval market town filled with a patchwork of twisting streets, black and white half timbered buildings, limestone cottages, specialty shops, numerous hostelries and watering holes and the remains of a magnificent 12th Century Priory, also the birth-place of the modern Olympics. For Accommodation please click on the Globes below.
