Location: For our holiday visitors, there are a multitude of reasons to visit Dumfries and Galloway. We've collected a few of them here to help you plan your break. Within walking distance of the Aberdour, there are plenty of things to keep you busy. Dumfries town boasts a swimming pool with a sauna and steam rooms, an ice rink, two cinemas, museums, art galleries, shops, and countless other visitor attractions. Outwith the town, there are many more attractions to fill your holiday. Miles of unspoilt beaches are available along the Solway Coast at Southerness and Sandyhills; some of the finest historic buildings in the country are here (Drumlanrig Castle, for example, which includes traditional workshops, bike hire, a vast estate to explore and an adventure playground); fishing breaks are available, and many others besides! Many people visit the region to learn more about Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, who lived and worked in Dumfriesshire for many years of his life. His statue stands in the town, and his farm at Ellisland is a must for any follower of his work. |
