Built in 1896 as a grand private residence, The Fieldhead is now a traditional, warm and friendly country house style hotel offering a very high standard of comfort and service. It occupies a prime, elevated position with unrivalled sea views from virtually every room across Looe Bay to Rame Head and beyond. Fascinating Looe Island, still in private hands is but a stones throw from the hotel, while the famous Eddystone Lighthouse is 12 miles away on the horizon. The ambience and traditional warmth of The Fieldhead are particularly evident - the comfortable lounge furnished with quality sofas and wing back chairs, while the use of table lamps and picture lights give the room a warm glow and provide a perfect place to relax at any time. The centrepiece must be the huge bay window, an original feature of the house giving a quite remarkable vista across Looe Bay to Looe Island. Just off the lounge is the cocktail bar, well equipped and comfortable, serving a full range of beverages and with doors opening onto the balcony and gardens. Throughout the building the pictures, ornaments and collections highlight the fact that The Fieldhead is proudly operated by the Owners - and indeed is their family home. All the bedrooms at the Fieldhead are en suite. The Fieldhead is set in 1½ acres of gardens and terraces, with a fabulous new outdoor heated swimming pool. Virtually all bedrooms have tremendous sea views - a perfect way to start and end the day is by gazing out on the ever changing views and colours. Every bedroom is en-suite with bath and shower; and all have recently been refurbished. Four superior rooms offer more space and are luxuriously equipped. Two have their own balcony and two are on the ground floor. Most of our rooms are doubles or twins, but some are available for single occupancy. Our new single bedroom has full en-suite bathe & shower, and a Family Room with double bed and bunk beds. All rooms have colour TV, radio, direct dial phone, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and iron. Heated and open from mid May to the end of September; the Fieldhead's large, newly renovated swimming pool is set in the cliff above the garden and is a veritable sun trap with more wonderful sea views. The Eden Project has proved a tremendous success. Opened in March 2001, it has become one of the most visited attractions in the country. Unique and unforgettable, the giant 'biomes', nestled in a disused china clay pit, display plants from all over the world. The interpretation of why plants are so important and how they fit into our environment is fascinating for visitors of all ages. An easy 30 minutes drive from The Fieldhead, Eden is a must for every visitor to Cornwall. Fast track tickets available. Looe itself provides a myriad of activities and interesting things to see ranging from rock and sea fishing, golf (five quality courses within a 40 minutes drive - click here for more), tennis and bowls (near the hotel), plenty of coastal and countryside walking and of course the beach. The picturesque fishing village of Polperro is just 15 minutes away by car or a spectacular 2½ hour walk along the coastal path. Fowey and Polruan, twin towns connected by ferry are close by, as are the historic towns of Bodmin, Liskeard and St Austell. Plymouth with its famous Hoe, National Marine Aquarium, marinas and shops is a 40 minute drive, with the Cathedral City of Truro just one hours drive away. Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor offer unrivalled walking and nature opportunities while the North Coast of Cornwall has spectacular scenery. For the garden lover, there are the fascinating Lost Gardens of Heligan, 30 minutes drive away and other equally fine examples such as Trebah, set in a hidden valley and Glendurgan with its famous maze. Although at their best in the spring, visitors can enjoy a huge range of plants throughout the year, many not grown anywhere else in the UK. Alongside the magnificent gardens, National Trust properties at Llanhydrock, Antony, Mount Edgecumbe and Cotehele are all an easy drive from The Fieldhead. |
