Argyll: The home of breathtaking contrasts such as Oban 'Gateway to the Isles' with its busy port ever active with fishing, leisure craft and ferries bound for Mull, Coll, Tiree, Colansay, Isley, Lismore, Kerrera, Barra and South Uist. For a sense of space, peace and tranquil beauty there is the unspoilt Kintyre Peninsula, (made famous we're sure by Sir Paul McCartney, the Mull of Kintyre) with its stunning beaches. The history of Argyll has a remarkable appeal. The past has left archaeological remains together with dramatic evidence of more recent occupation, all set amidst a stunning landscape of sea lochs and mountains. Thanks to the ferry and railway, Oban is a busy town with many shops, banks, supermarkets, garages, a cinema and post office. It is the ideal place to stay and explore the surrounding area or to stop overnight if you are on your way to the Isle of Mull. Known as the Gateway to the Isles, it has a population of some 8,500.
