Location: With Dufftown being the start of the whisky trail, it's no wonder that visitors come from all over the world to see and taste the fine malts distilled in the town. Although the earliest settlements can be traced back to AD566, the town was founded in 1817 by the Earl of Fife to give employment after the Napoleonic Wars. The perfect water sources soon saw it become a centre for the distilling industry, (not always legally!) and today, its seven distilleries produce some of the most famous whiskies in the world including Glenfiddich, Glendullan, Pittyvaich, Kininvie, Mortlach, Balvenie and Dufftown-Glenlivet. The remainder of any day can be spent playing golf, walking in the beautiful hills, watching the Highland Games, visiting the oldest church in Scotland or an ancient castle - even having a genuine Scottish kilt specially made by a qualified kiltmaker. All local Hotels and Restaurants are all within a minute or two's walk from Davaar. |
